"There is no more important job in modern Britain than that of the family nurse or doctor. With a growing and ageing population, GPs have to deal with more complex health problems – and as a result, their job is more challenging than ever before" NHS England.
Preventable ill-health accounts for an estimated 50% of all GP appointments, 64% of outpatient appointments and 70% of all inpatient bed days. 40% of the uptake of health services in England may be preventable through action on lifestyle changes. (BMA).
Having worked within the NHS for 14 years, most recently as a Senior Manager across NHS Sussex, I have a good understanding of the complex nature of our health care system. I also appreciate that for most GP Practices, improving or maintaining the health of their patients is their number one priority. As a small business, progressive and innovative GP practices are acutely aware of the cost saving benefits of investing in lifestyle interventions and disease prevention and reducing frequent patient appointments. With the increasing demands and time pressures within GP surgeries, there are however limitations on the amount of time that can be dedicated to your patients in order for you to achieve this.
Do you struggle to help your patients with M.E / CFS / Long Covid or Autoimmune Disease? Are you all out of answers for them? Do you run out of time in appointments to cover everything of value that your patients want to discuss? Do your patients who are Pre-diabetic need some dedicated one to one support to reduce their risk of Type 2 Diabetes? Do you have patients who you know would reap the benefits from reducing their weight and waistline?
This is where Jo can help both relieve the pressure and also help decrease frequent GP visits. As an experienced and accredited DESMOND Healthier You Educator, NHS Health Improvement Practitioner, and NHS Senior Project Manager, I have a proven track record in making a difference. My belief is simple - when you provide (evidence based) information and empower people to improve their self-esteem it can be transformational. My aim is to understand the complexity of why an individual has adopted certain lifestyle patterns and habits and then help them make informed decisions going forward in every aspect of their lifestyle in order to improve their current health status and safeguard their future health. GP's often say - they know their patient has improved when they don't see them!
My personal experience of having M.E / CFS and Autoimmunity following a virus in 2014 and my learning experience to get back to good health is being put to good use by helping others with this diagnosis. M.E is a complex disease with an ever changing presentation and fluctuation of symptoms. I am able to attend GP surgeries for half days or full days to support your patients in improving their management of M.E / CFS, reduce their symptoms and be able to live their lives again.
£325 per half day - 5 X 30 minute appointments plus travel expenses
